OUR COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES
General Exams and Tooth Cleanings
To upkeep your oral and overall health, Star Smiles recommends having regular dental check-ups, cleanings, and x-rays. You should schedule tooth cleanings at least every six months. This appointment will help us catch issues like cavities and early signs of gum disease. Regular cleanings also keep your smile looking clean and bright!
At Star Smiles, our regular exams involve periodontal probe readings, removal of plaque and tartar, polishing, and flossing. We can also provide an oral cancer screening if you so wish.
We provide night guards (or mouth guards) for patients who grind and clench their teeth at night. These guards protect your teeth from wearing down, relax your muscles, and reduce pain from this clenching and grinding. Do you have chronic migraine headaches? The NTI® night guard may help you. This night guard is an FDA-approved device to treat migraines. The Star Smiles team can discuss the nightguard options with you and determine which is right for your situation.
Oral Cancer Screening
When you schedule an appointment with Star Smiles, you can always expect an oral cancer screening as well. While a dentist checks your teeth, he or she can quickly do an additional check for irregular lumps or bumps in your mouth, lips, and tongue. These masses would be signs of oral cancer.
We also offer Sapphire Plus® lesion detection, which is an oral cancer screening technology that we recommend to all patients. About 37,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer every year. One person dies every hour from oral cancer. The Oral Cancer Foundation says that for this reason, the disease causes more than 8,000 deaths each year. Detecting oral cancer at an early stage is the best chance for treatment and recovery.
The Sapphire Plus® screening is painless and straightforward and could save your life by catching oral cancer early. This process involves shining blue light onto the surface of your mouth. Any parts of your mouth that are not fluorescent under this light could be possible concerns. If you have these areas, we will refer you to the oral surgeon for a biopsy and more in-depth examination. Rest assured that we only work with the best and most qualified oral surgeons in the area.
